Save our Laune on August 20th in Killorglin
There is a great eco initiative happening in Killorglin on August 20th this year Annascaul are happy to send representatives to this event and to learns about Beekeeping, bats, native flowers, pesticides etc
The event at Library Place outlines the issues that affect bio diversity in Ireland . In paraphrasing we see that
” Alien Invasive species are causing increasing problems for Irish the native ecosystem and economy We see that many companies and voluntary organisations are engaged in tackling the issue around the country. Plants, insects, birds and on up the food chain to humans are all affected See the poster here .Launescape – Heritage Week Celebration poster
Many of these invasive plants, do not flower until late summer, leaving our insects and birds without food in spring and summer. They cover entire hedgerows and riverbanks with a single species leaving gaps in the food chain and threatening native species with extinction. In order to tackle the problem we need to be serious in our attempts to control them. Through the generation and through commerce and social activities we brought them here and so it is now our responsibility to control them. Our natural heritage is our only real wealth.
